# Files and storage

Files are the originals behind a job: photos, PDFs, spreadsheets and supplier documents. Keeping them in workspace storage gives your team and agent one place to find the current file without copying it into chat.

## Find or add a file

Open **Files** to browse or search the workspace. A task can also hold an attachment or a reference to a file that already exists in storage. Use the task when the file needs job context; use Files when you need the folder itself.

Ask your agent to confirm the destination before it writes or moves anything:

~~~
In Forge, find the latest [file name] for [job]. Tell me its workspace path and the task it belongs to.
~~~

## Keep the original clear

Do not assume a file has been copied, shared or replaced just because it appears on a task. Ask the agent to read the current file reference and describe the next safe action.

## Storage and access

Forge routes workspace files through that workspace’s configured storage. Use the workspace file route instead of pasting document contents into chat. A task attachment gives work context; it does not automatically make a file public or change who can open it. Check the destination and access before moving, replacing or sharing a file.

~~~
Before uploading this file, tell me the workspace destination, who can currently access it and whether this will create a new copy or replace anything.
~~~
